Spend a few days learning it and all will suddenly feel axiomatic.
#RIP SKETCHFAB MODELS SOFTWARE#
Those are fine, your issues are coming from whatever 3D software you decided to download (would have been wiser to tell us here which one). And keep whatever objects you downloaded from Sketchfab. It's always good to read forums around as someone always had a similar issue on close to any subject and the web is often more a marvelous place to find answers than ask questions. Google search "how to import an obj" and you'll find your answers.īecause OBJ is a format common to all 3D apps and softs, you'll usually find it in an "import" menu rather than an "open" menu. It's a bit like opening a "MyMovie.MP4" with a "MyMovie.SRT" for subtitles in the same folder : you open the MP4 and the SRT is loaded automatically by your player. If you import for example a "MyObject.obj", just keep the "MyObject.mtl" in the same folder and all will be fine. Values of ambient, diffuse, specular, transparency, emission and so on. MTL is your OBJ's "companion file" containing the surface shading (material) properties for your 3D object. OBJ holds the mesh information : position of each vertex, UV mapping (UV = XY axis for 2D textures), faces' normals, vertex color, etc.
#RIP SKETCHFAB MODELS LICENSE#
"The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license you obviously need to spend some of your time learning a few basics ) Read around what's an obj and an mtl before trying to blindly open files without having an idea of what their extension means :
